Walls and Earthworks
The swales designed and described in the prior post did not survive the Category 4 hurricane that visited the property in Oct 2023. They were quickly swept away. Thus, we prepared a project plan as follows:
Trying to connect the french drain from the main dome’s bedroom access to where is slowly disappeared in the sand was a pain, but we did find it:
That drain will now connect to the 3 “Rojistros” we are building and all water will run-off controlled (hopefully!) into plants further down slope.
The walls in back are to stop rivers of water rushing down the road into our property during hurricanes. Prior to our neighbor's construction, the water sloping east would disperse quite well. But hundreds of truck visits to build our neighbor’s homes has disturbed the path and now water goes toward the sea and slopes north - following the truck paths. Because both neighbors built complete walls, the water was forced into our 'non-walled’ property and caused enormous channels when flooded. So, we are forced into the ‘beggar they neighbor’ approach to also wall to prevent this and push the problem further northward slope. Hopefully our neighborhood will find a collaborative solution long term to slow down the water runoff.
